ABOUT

Greg Cooley Wines is one of the Clare Valley’s smallest, more boutique wine producers. A family owned and operated business run by winemaker Greg Cooley and his partner Kelli Shanahan, wines are designed with food, family and friends in mind and like Greg, have an unerring knack for delighting and surprising their audience.

Greg and Kelli - Greg Cooley Wines

Greg’s wines are a little special, a little different and are by choice not available in bottle shops. A boutique producer, rather wines are sold direct only via the website or at their ever popular wine lunch series.

In 2002 they released their very first wine and since then the range has grown significantly both in style and appeal, to include reds, whites, sparkling wines and fortifieds.

But perhaps the best way to sum up their wines is to say that while they do make a lot of wines, they don’t make a lot of wine! Total production is around 2,500 cases a year and for some wines, as little as 100 dozen are made.

The focus is on the key Clare varieties of Riesling, Shiraz and Cabernet and many of their wines are a mix of reserve or blended wines of each of these varieties. But you’ll always find something different in the range such as an oaked Chardonnay, Sparkling Shiraz, Sangiovese, Grenache or Pinot Gris. Across the board they are easy drinking wines, approachable in youth, but delightful with age.

Rated 5 stars in James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion, each of Greg’s wines is named after people who’ve been of influence to him over the years and their influence is as varied as the wine styles – from South Australian author Monica McInerney to his greyhound vet Graham Beh!

“We hope you can find some space in the cellar for a few of our Cooley Wines and look forward to meeting you at our new pop-up Cellar Door at 12 Main North Road. Thanks for supporting small winemakers!” Cheers, Greg and Kelli, Greg Cooley Wines.
